Vice Chair of PCA Visits UJN

    University of  Jinan(UJN), Oct 6,2015:On the morning of October 6th, Professor Steven Kosmatka, Vice Chair of the Portland Cement Association (PCA) and an internationally known cement concrete materials expert, was invited to Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Preparation and Measurement of Building Materials, University of Jinan (hereinafter referred to as ¡°Key Laboratory¡±) for academic exchange. Cheng Xin, the President of University of Jinan met him. Teachers and postgraduates of related disciplines from College of Materials Science and Engineering and the Key Laboratory attended the academic report and exchange seminar.


    Before the seminar, President Cheng Xin held talks with professor Kosmatka. He expressed his warm welcome to professor Kosmatka¡¯s visit and briefly introduced history and characteristics of our university¡¯s research on building materials with hope that this visit will enhance collaboration between PCA and University of Jinan in respect of scientific research, information exchange and exchange and cooperation. Professor Kosmatka expressed his thanks to President Cheng Xin and keen interest in our achievements in research and industrialization in building materials field, saying that associated research of our university is extremely consistent with the low-carbon and energy-saving cement advocated by PCA in recent years and hoping that University of Jinan could cooperate with the related American cement manufactures.

     At the seminar, professor Kosmatka introduced comprehensively cement concrete¡¯s development in America in aspects, such as history, structure and function of PCA in recent 100 years, development trend of concrete, cement concrete research of PCA in the past 100 years and sustainability of cement concrete industry. Finally, he gave detailed answers to questions from teachers and postgraduates. This academic report and exchange seminar enriched professional knowledge of teachers and students from cement concrete major and expanded field of international academic exchange. After the seminar, professor Kosmatka visited the Key Laboratory and had a discussion with some teachers. 

    Professor Kosmatka, the current vice chare of PCA, and concurrently member of American Concrete Institute (ACI), American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), Commission of Strategic Development (CSD) and Transportation Research Board (TRB), etc., is engaged in standards and regulation monitoring, cement concrete research, technical service, cement preparation, management of research institution library and education and so on. He has published over 50 academic papers regarding cement concrete research, wrote a number of books and has been invited to deliver reports on themes like cement concrete durability and sustainability internationally for several times. PCA is the most powerful professional institute researching on cement concrete materials. Its researches and services have profound influences on infrastructure construction throughout America last century and even on cement-based materials research and manufacturing all over the world.
