UJN President Chen Xin Present at 2015 Roundtable of the Council of the Confucius Institute Headquarters

    University of Jinan(UJN),Sep.15,2015: Recently, 2015 Roundtable of the Council of the Confucius Institute Headquarters convened in Qufu, Shandong Province. Guo Shuqing, Governor of Shandong Province, met with the delegates. Xu Lin, Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Director General of Hanban, Ji Xiangqi, Vice Governor of Shandong Province, and leaders of part of the domestic colleges and universities and from related foreign universities in the United States, Britain, Germany, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Hungary, Romania, Mexico, and Kenya, almost 100 delegates attended the conference, sharing the huge influence of Confucius and his thought in the contemporary era. Cheng Xin, President of University of Jinan, was present at the conference.

    Director General Xu Lin summarized the brilliant achievements of the Confucius Institute.She introduced the development of the Confucius Institute in 2014, expected delegates to actively offer advice and suggestions, and analyzed and judged the international and domestic situation that the Confucius Institute is facing and the future development idea and policies. She said that the Confucius Institute Headquarters will further strengthen cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world by inviting experts and scholars of the Confucius Institute host universities to offer lectures in China and introduce diverse cultures of different countries. She also said that the Confucius Institute will offer opportunities for student art troupes of Chinese and foreign universities to visit each other, so as to promote the understanding and friendship between young people of both sides.
  
    In his speech, Vice Governor Ji Xiangqi pointed out that Shandong Province will take this roundtable as an opportunity to thoroughly implement the spirit of the important speech by General Secretary Xi Jinping in his inspection in Qufu, to fully exploit a wealth of Confucian cultural resources and the unique research strengths, to deepen cooperation with the Confucius Institute Headquarters, to improve the planning program for the Confucius Institute Headquarters experience base, to make great efforts on key project construction, to focus on improving the functional positioning, to make full use of the role of the experience base, and to promote Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges for new greater achievements.

     UJN President Cheng Xin said in his speech that University of Jinan will take the international promotion and dissemination of Chinese culture as its mission and attach great importance to the construction of the Confucius Institute. It has established 3 Confucius Institutes in the United States and the Republic of Congo. Through integration of the university¡¯s whole resources, systematic plan, and overall promotion, University of Jinan has achieved stage results in building Confucius Institute. In the future, UJN will further summarize the experience, make persistent efforts, and continue to make new achievements in the work on the Confucius Institute.

    In recent years, University of Jinan has promoted the work of the Confucius Institute with impressive results by focusing on the top-level design, improving management system, providing excellent teachers, enriching cultural activities, and deepening inter-collegiate cooperation and so on. UJN has sent in succession 4 deans, 5 Chinese teachers and more than 50 student volunteers to work at the Confucius Institute abroad. It has received 146 man-times from the Confucius Institute and accepted 33 scholarship winners of the Confucius Institute. Also, UJN has taken full advantage of the Confucius Institute as a platform to carry out cooperation and communication in mutual visit of teachers, student exchange, and academic exchange, making positive contribution to the dissemination and promotion of the Chinese language and culture, and contributed to improving the educating level of internationalization.
