Delegation of British GCU Visits UJN

    University of Jinan(UJN), 24 June, 2015: On May  28th,  John Lennon, assistant vice president of Glasgow Caledonian University of British (GCU), accompanied by Li Xiang, coordinator of GCU Department of International Project,  paid a visit to UJN. UJN Vice President  Wang Baoxian met with them .

    During the talk, Vice President Wang Baoxian reviewed the history of friendly exchanges between the two universities and introduced to the foreign guests the new progress made by the University of Jinan in the last two years in educational levels as well as in teaching and research. Vice President Wang Baoxian said that since 2008 the University of Jinan and Glasgow Caledonian University, as friendly and cooperative higher institutions, have maintained a good and fruitful cooperation and achieved remarkable results in visiting teachers, student exchanges, and scientific research cooperation. Taking the Sino-foreign undergraduate program as a link, the two universities make frequent exchanges based on the reciprocal benefit, greatly deepening mutual understanding as well as benefiting both teachers and students. He hoped that both universities would continue to consolidate the existing cooperative projects, doing a good and solid job in them. At the same time, both universities have a huge potential for cooperation, and both sides should further expand and deepen cooperation in other fields, especially substantial exchanges in science and technology so as to benefit more disciplines in their development.

    Assistant Vice President John Lennon briefly introduced the latest development of Glasgow Caledonian University. He said that after several years of efforts by both sides, the two universities have made a solid and profound friendship. UJN students study very hard and are self-reliant, leaving a deep impression to leaders and teachers of Glasgow Caledonian University. John Lennon hoped that more and more UJN students would come to Glasgow Caledonian University through the 2+2 and 3+1 programs and the university would do best to provide conveniences to students for their study and life.

    The leader of UJN's Science & Technology Division introduced to the visiting guests the general situation of scientific research and predominant disciplines and proposed suggestions on research and cooperation between the two universities in terms of urban waste recycling and utilization, air pollution, and the sustainable use of water resources, reaching an agreement with the other party. In addition, related responsible persons and teachers from School of Economics, School of Information Science and Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering and School of Resources and Environment respectively made an introduction about their own cooperative programs and their implementation and put forward a series of problems demanding prompt solution such as lack of foreign teachers, insufficient teaching resources, abutment of the courses in both universities and problems in applying for going abroad etc.. After a detailed and candid discussion, the Glasgow Caledonian University side expressed that it would send a number of specialized teachers at the appropriate time to give admission guidance and concentrated instructions to students under the cooperative program as well as duly open part of the online teaching video or data of the university to help students make good curriculum alignment after they enter Glasgow Caledonian University.

    After the meeting, the foreign guests came to School of Economics,and  had a talk with the students going to Glasgow Caledonian University this fall and answered questions of the students' concern.
